Natural Herbal Conditioner
Herbal conditioner, much like herbal shampoo, is an option that more and more people are turning to out of concern for the ingredients of commercial shampoo and conditioner. Many of the ingredients that are placed in every day conditioners are dangerous chemicals that can even cause diseases and are sometimes very damaging to your hair. Many people that ant to live more natural, healthy lifestyles have turned to these new herbal products to find better ways of taking care of their hair. Unfortunately many of the so called “herbal” or “natural’ conditioners that we see out on the market today are little more than chemical laden products disguised with a new brand or a natural looking bottle - and just because the label says it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true. There isn’t much in the way of standards when it comes to regulating the claims that hair companies make on their products so it’s hard to be certain of what you’re buying. If you want to be really certain the best thing that you can do is make your own conditioner (and shampoo if you like) so that you can be sure of exactly what’s going into it. This is also a great option for people with specific lifestyle choices like veganism, someone who has very sensitive skin or hair, or someone that may have ethical reasons like sustainability or not wanting their products to be tested on animals. Plus making your own conditioner is really fun and it makes a wonderful gift for family or for friends especially if you pair it with other natural herb products in a fun gift basket. It’s also a great choice for small children or pets where you really have to be careful about what’s going into the products that you use and what effects it might have. Fortunately it’s also very simple to make and you can add all sorts of herbs and essential oils to give your hair lots of shine or treat any conditions it might have.
The first thing you need to create your conditioner is about a cup of rose water. If you don’t have rose water and don’t want to buy any you can make it pretty easily by steeping some rose petals in hot water (preferably spring water) for fifteen minutes or so the same way you would with tea. After it’s steeped you can just strain out the petals. It’s a good idea to crush up your petals before you do this because it will help them release their aroma more. Once you have your rose water you’ll want to gently warm it (you can just use it right after you’ve steeped it if you like) and add a tablespoon of jojoba oil. Put the mixture in a blender and add ten drops of Vitamin E oil to it. Blend it at a high speed for two minutes. Once you’ve done that you can put it in a cute glass jar and make a label for it to give to friends or family or just to keep for yourself. Use it like you would normal conditioner but you may want to shampoo again lightly after you’ve used it. You can put this in a cute box as a gift for a friend too with matching shampoo if you wanted to and you can always mix in herbs or essential oils to give it a unique scent.
If you want something even more natural for your hair to work as a conditioner you can use a half a cup of raw, natural honey and let it sit on your hair for about half an hour after you’ve worked it in really well. After that rinse and shampoo thoroughly and you’ll get all the nice benefits of honey without any of the yucky chemicals.
Either way you can have a lot of fun making your own conditioner, finding fun bottles to put it in, creating pretty labels for it, and giving it away to friends and family. Some people have even gone as far as turning their little conditioner and shampoo making hobby into a full fledged business and many are quite successful doing it. It’s plenty of fun to just try it out for you and your family though so start mixing things up and see what lovely conditioners you can create!
