How To Frame Flowers And Herbs

Framed flowers and herbs are a beautiful thing to display in your home and they are also very convenient as a fun project or craft and they can be a great way to preserve flowers or herbs, especially those that were from formal or special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, or anniversaries. It’s very easy to press flowers and herbs and framing them takes hardly anymore work and makes for a beautiful and unique picture to display as no two could possibly be alike.

You’ll want to make sure when pressing your flowers and herbs that there isn’t any way that pests or bugs can get to them and eat bits of them while they are being pressed and that they are away from any moisture or direct sunlight. The classic method of pressing your flowers and herbs between pages of a book, sheets of tissue paper, and so forth are very effective and easily done. Give your flowers ample time to be pressed and be sure to arrange them exactly as you want them before leaving them to press as you don’t want them drying in any sort of a strange shape or at an odd angle or they wont look as good when you put them in your frame. Its also important to make sure that they aren’t in any direct sunlight as this can dry them out too quickly and it can make them lose their color much faster than they might otherwise which will make them look dull and faded. This applies to herbs as well and you definitely want them to retain a lot of color and vibrancy so that they’ll look the best that they can once they’re in your frame.

When you frame your flowers it’s important to first prepare the picture with the mat and the glass that goes with the frame. Put the glass down, then the matt, then the pressed picture, and then the glass again. You’ll also want to put a small amount of silica or other desiccant behind the picture as well as an oxygen absorber because this will help your picture keep for much longer. Use a light coating of spray adhesive and some aluminum tape to attach the pressed flower picture to the glass but make sure that the tape will be hidden by the frame.

When you display your newly made piece of floral art it’s important that you take care as to where you put it and how it’s displayed because that can make a big difference as to how long it lasts and continues to look as good as it does right now. Your flowers will fade and deteriorate over time simply because, unfortunately, they are only flowers and that’s what flowers do. Your herbs will do the same thing and may even crumble within your frame which is why you want to protect the the best you can. Keep your picture out of rooms that have a lot of humidity, away from direct sunlight, and use the appropriate products to make them last longer. Hang them in a place where they won’t be disturbed or exposed to a lot of the elements and you’ll be able to enjoy them for much longer than you would otherwise.
