Herbal Remedies For Anxiety
Anxiety is a serious problem for many people and it can often be one that seems very hopeless or without a cure of any sort. For many people an anxiety disorder is something that they’ve had to live with for most of their lives, for others it’s something that develops out of a tragic or sever incident such as a death or an accident. Some people experience it as a panic attack that happens only once and others have repeated episodes over a span of many years. Whatever the source or cause there are helpful herbal remedies that can ease the suffering and improve the abilities of the central nervous system so that they can more easily handle stress and not overreact which can often happen in people who have anxiety disorders. There is also a possibility of the problem being a genetic or biochemical problem stemming from high levels of lactic acid which is produced when the muscles in the body metabolize sugar without having enough oxygen however it has been suggested that the anxiety may be the result of an overproduction of stress hormones as well.
There are however plenty of herbs and essential oils that can be used to relive anxiety. Catnip tea has a soothing effect and fennel tea will relieve any gastrointestinal problems. Kava, in a tincture or capsules will help minimize anxiousness and hops has a relaxing effect on the nervous system. Motherwort stabilizes emotions as well as calms as does passionflower. St. John’s Wort helps get rid of depression and both skullcap and valerian help relax and bring on sleep. You can use the following essential oils in a bath to help with the effects of an anxiety disorder: cedarwood, lavender, lemon, sandalwood, marjoram, bergamot, geranium, neroli, and patchouli.
All of these herbs and essential oils can be used to deal with the effects of anxiety and there are plenty of different ways in which you can employ them to help you out. One of the best ways is to use these dried herbs and create a little bag of them with cheese cloth and then soak in a hot bath with them so that the herbs will steep in the hot water. You can also add essential oils to a bath and use those to keep panic attacks and other nervous disorders at bay. It’s also very helpful to drink the tea of these herbs but you want to be careful about the kinds of activities you engage in after drinking this tea and using these oils. If you use herbs and oils that make you sleepy or tired it’s not a good idea to go out driving right after as it could be dangerous. Another good way is to make scented pillows or small pouches with herbs in them. I personally have lavender scented pillows that help me sleep at night and they work wonders especially if I’m having trouble falling asleep because of stress. Small pouches with herbs sewn into them are a great resource if you feel yourself getting stressed or think that you might be having a possible panic attack. Simple take your little ouch out and hold it to your nose while you take a good deep breath. The herbs in it will help you calm down and your breathing will help prevent you from going into a full on panic attack. It’s a great method to keep your stress under control. You can also apply this method with essential oils by putting a few drops on a warm washcloth and placing it over your eyes or by have a bit of cloth that you have scented with you at all times to keep you stress-free. You can also buy fragrances with essential oils in them to wear throughout your day which will keep the scent with you at all times and help ward off anxiety.
There are plenty of options that can work for someone that suffers from an anxiety disorder as long as you’re willing to get creative. Try a few different herbs and methods and then see which ones work the very best for you and you’ll have no problem keeping your anxiety disorder under control.
