Herbal Baths

An herbal bath is single handedly one of the best ways that you can use herbs for health, beauty, or whatever your needs might be. What many people don’t know is that using hot water on herbs (just like you would in a tea) releases their benefits and properties as they steep in the water. This is one of the reasons that drinking tea is so beneficial for you. However many people don’t care for the taste of tea even if they do like the smell of herbs, regardless of how good it might be for them. What this means is that your next best option is to take an herbal bath so that you can still have the benefits of those herbs without having to endure the taste of some of them. Your body is very adept at absorbing the nutrients it needs - it’s common knowledge that we absorb Vitamin D from the sun and that it’s very good for us. We also absorb all the things that we put on your skin, which is why hormonal patches and smoking patches work the way that they do. This same concept applies to herbs. Herbs and their very good for you, healthy, properties can be absorbed right into your skin - especially after they’ve been steeped in hot water, releasing their essences. The best way to do this is by taking an herbal bath filled with your favorite herbs and essential oils. You can also add other things to your bath like oatmeal and various kinds of salts that will have a good effect on your skin and your well being but the herbs alone will do a very good job of taking care of you.

There are hundreds of herbs with lots of special abilities and benefits but some of the most common ones for herbal baths are lavender, chamomile, rosemary, thyme, eucalyptus, orange blossoms, lime blossoms, comfrey, and many others. The best way to go about it is to simply do some looking around for herbs that have the desired effect that you want. If you want something energizing look for herbs with that property, if you want something calming or sleep inducing pick something that does that. Remember that you can also combine more than one herb in a bath to achieve what you want but it’s best to not use too many or you’ll get overwhelmed and it probably wont smell as good as it would if you were only to use two or three in a bath. All you need to do is take your herbs and wrap them up in the center of a cheesecloth or a muslim bag and then tie them securely at the top. Once you’ve done that just hang the bag with some string so that the water from the faucet in your bath runs straight through the bag. This will steep the herbs as they are flushed with water and give your bath all kinds of nice properties without them floating around in the water with you. You can also use this bag to apply the herbs to any parts of you that need extra work (like if you have a bruise or a  rash or something that needs healing). While you do this the steam will also be picking up all those herbs and as you inhale it you’ll be getting the benefits of the herbs delivered right to your nervous system from your nose which is just another way that the herbal bath is so good for you. This is also a good time to take some honey and use it as a conditioner or a moisturizer while you’re in your bath - just remember to wash it off very well afterwards.

It’s also worth noting that the hot water that comes along with taking an herbal bath is another part of the whole thing that is very good for you. Herbal baths wouldn’t be the same without the hot water and its the water and its high temperature that opens your pores, cleanses your skin, helps release toxins, gets blood flowing in your body which will also help you flush out toxins as well as helping the herbs release all that good stuff in them so that you can absorb it. Just remember not to make it too hot or you might burn or irritate your skin.

Herbal baths are amazing and they have tons of benefits and restorative properties plus they’re very relaxing and a lot of fun. Try one soon and it won’t be long before you’re hooked on them!
